Letters of Francis William Kimble
14th Iowa Infantry, Company 'B'
Presented by the Iowa Civil War Site
Letter number thirty-five
Memphis, Tenn No date
Well Eliza how are you today. As for me, I feel tolerble well for while
receiving such an extensive supply of news from you, Mother and James. I got
a letter from one of my Columbus sweets at the same time. Besides all this I
got an answer from Miss Kirk, Columbus also. The lady's name that I got the
letter from today is Louisa Creason. She is much better looking than Miss
Kirk. Well Eliza the 14th Iowa has been in another hard fight with old
Forrest. The 14th lost 4 men killed and several wounded. Co. B had 2 wounded
but not dangerously. I was out to camp day before yesterday and stayed all
day. I would rather be with the band than be in the hospital. Eliza I never
got neither of the letters that you spoke of while on Red River. I am very
glad that Mrs. Coombs took such good care of Rose the 4th. You know if I had
of been there I would of saved the old lady so much trouble. I got a letter
from Sally Biddison a short time ago. She wanted I should give you and Mother
her respects. Miss Kirk is the very one that made such a fuss when I left
Columbus. I wouldn't care if I was back to Columbus today. No more today. My
compliments to all. Write soon. F. W. Kimble
