Letter number six

Camp Heron,Davenport February 6th, 1862
Well Mother I sit myslf down to let you know that I received your letter of
the 29th on Wednesday the 3rd. Mother I was glad to hear from you once more
and that you was well. Well Mother I am well at present and hope that those
few lines may find you the same. Mother the weather has been pretty cold for
a few days, but it is moderating now. We have not had enough snow to have a
slegh ride yet. The 6th cavalry has got their bounty. they will get the rest
of their pay in a few days.We haven't got our pay yet. The talk is if the
paroled prisoners comes up here we will get another furlough. I got 2 letters
last night, one from Sarah and one from Anne Russell. Sarah said that she got
$20.00 from John a few days since. I got a letter from Wm.Biddison. He went
through the battle of Springfield uninjured. Well Mother I don't have much to
do at present. You wanted to know if I had got my underclothes. I have got
them a long time ago. I want to know if Eliza goes to school. Mother you
wanted to know if you had better go and stay with Sarah. You know what I
think about it a long time ago. So no more at present. I send my best
respects to all.
A few lines father.Well Father I like a soldier's life very well as far as I
have seen of it
but it will be harder when we get in the field. I expect we will have to go
north to whip those cussed indians out that is cutting their didoes? in the
north. Well Dad Davenport is a regular soldier's skiner?. I do not know how
soon we leave here so no more at present. Yours truly from F.W. Kimble to
Thomas Kimble
