The Oldest Deeds of record is Thomas Deeds, arrived in the VA/Maryland area 1654-1663 as a servant from Barbados. He landed in Barbados as an indentured Servant from England. William Deitz came from Botetoury County, Virginia, to Greenbrier at an early date. He purchased land in what is now Nicholas County. In 1831, William McClug conveyed to Catherine Williams, Elizabeth Deitz, Nathaniel Deitz, Polly Deitz, Joseph Deitz, John Deitz, Robert Deitz, Phebe Deitz, Rebecca Deitz and James Deitz, heirs at law of William Deitz, deceased, of Greenbrier County, a tract of 50 acres, in Nicholas, described as adjoining the land of William Deitz, Jr., recorded in Deed Book 2, page 367. The marriage record shows that James W. Deitz marriedd Nancy Hendrickson of Botetourt County, Virginia, in 1857. It appears from the record that James W. Deitz and J D Deitz were sons of William Deitz, Sr. In 1898, J.D. Deitz and Virginia, his wife, conveyed to their sons, J.W. Deitz and E.E. Deitz a tract of 120 acres of land in Nicholas County. J.W. Deitz and E.E. Deitz, twin brothers, were well known in the public life of the county. E.E. Deitz was the first mayor and postmaster of Richwood. His sons are prominent in the business life of that city. Oakford Deitz is assistant superintendent of Nicholas County schools. In 1884, the heirs of A.S. Skaggs, deceased, conveyed 160 acres of land in Wilderness District to George W. Deitz. Nathan Deitz and Wallace Deitz are named as citizens of Mt. Lookout community. William Henry Deitz in business in Summersville, is a son of Fraza Leonidas Deitz and a grandson of Wilson Deitz. The relation of the Deotz family of Richwood to the family of that name in Wilderness District does not appear from the record. (pages 307 & 308) A source book for checking Deeds Family is.
