An account of the death of Jacob and Samuel in in the "The Good Life in Piatt County IL". It said Jacob and Samuel were in the Lake fork area when they were frozen to death while on their way to West Okaw. They had been over in the Lake Fork timber area hunting hogs and were frozen while enroute home. It was twelve days before their bodies were recovered. They were found one knelling as if trying to kindle a fire as he had a steel and flint in his hand with punk and a tuft of grass laying by his side. His brother was lying on the ground near him while one of their horses stood close by nearly starved to death, with his bridle rein frozen in the ice.
