23rd Iowa Infantry

Monument located on Union Avenue 200 yards south of the railroad bridge. Also a marker designating the advanced sharpshooter's line located 400' south of the Railroad Redoubt and a marker designating the camp site located on Union Avenue in front of the Iowa Memorial. This unit was attached to Brig. Gen. Michael K. Lawler's 2nd Brigade of Brig. Gen. Eugene A. Carr's 14th Division, XIII Army Corps under Maj. Gen'l's John A. McClernand (relieved 6/19/63) and Edward O.C. Ord and was commanded by Col.s William H. Kinsman (killed 17 May 1863) & Samuel L. Glasgow.
