Bond for Arms and Accoutrements

Know all men by these presents, that we, Moses K. Merritt, Edward Fisher,
Jason W. Sherman, and L.A.Sherman are held and firmly bound unto the State of
Iowa, in the penal sum of One Thousand Dollars, to the payment of which we
hereby jointly and severally bind ourselves by these Presents, upon the
conditions following to=wit: That whereas, the State of Iowa has delivered to
Moses K. Merritt Captain of the Grinnell Mounted Infantry an independent
Military Company, organized at Grinnell in the State of Iowa, and
accoutrements, of which a schedule and receipt is endorsed upon this Bond,
being arms and accoutrements furnished by the United States, to the State of
Iowa.
Now if the said obligors shall cause said arms and accoutrements TO BE KEPT
SAFELY, AND AT ALL TIMES IN CONDITION FOR SERVICE, and shall return the same
in like condition upon the requisition of the Governor of the State aforesaid,
or upon the refusal of said Company to obey orders when legally called into
service, or upon the disbanding of said Company by their own act, or by legal
authority ; and shall in all things conform to, and hold said arms and
accoutrements in conformity with the laws of said State and the laws of the
United States relating thereto, then this obligation to be void, otherwise in
full force and effect.
Witness, our hands and seals this 14th of February, AD 1865,

L.A.Sherman

It is hereby certified, that Moses K. Merritt, Edward Fisher, Jason W.Sherman,
and L.A.Sherman whose genuine signatures are signed to the foregoing
obligation, are amply responsible for the sum named in said obligation, and
that the security thus given is not only good for the present, but likely to
remain so, from the character and circumstances of the respective obligors.
