William Himes born Abt 1840 Marion Co., IL. died of cancer 9-2-1899 San Francisco CA. Enlisted 9-3-1861 in Knoxville Iowa, mustered in 9-14-1861 in Keokuk Iowa, re-enlisted 1-1-1864 in Little Rock AR. mustered out 8-9-1865 in Atlanta GA.
Served in Co., K 3rd Iowa Cavalry as a Blacksmith.

Butts or Chris Butts photographers at Benton Barracks St. Louis Mo., Hundreds of photos were taken in front of this background. At the present time I have two more and have had others. The cannon on the background was added later in the war as early photos due not have it.
