Can you identify this? Below is a picture of a badge, possibly from a hat. It has crossed muskets and wheat like projections on both sides, also on the back has "VII." This seems to be made of brass and was dug up in Northeast Iowa, near Dubuque. Property was old rural school house near Sageville.
If you know what this is, please let us know!!!
Suggestions from visitors
This has the appearance of being an infantry badge, worn on the cap of the solder. I believe the VII on the back of the emblem is a makers mark, not an indication of the Regiment. If it were, it would be on the front.
