Captain James W. Towner

9th Iowa Infantry

James belonged to two well known free love communities after the Civil War (quite a shock in those days) and then went on to be the first Superior Court Judge of Orange County, Ca., and was partially responsible for the separation from L.A. County

There has been several interesting articles and law reviews written about him, as well as books that mention his involvement in the communes.
