8th Iowa Infantry

Private Robert O.Watson

Private Robert O. Watson  served in Co. C. of the 8th Iowa Infantry Regimental Volunteers.  He
was mustered into Union service on Aug. 30, 1862 at Washington, IA. for a 3 year enlistment. According to his service record, he was 37 years old at that time.
He was 5 feet, 10 inches tall, had blue eyes, dark complexion, dark brown hair. He was born in Jennings Co. Indiana. His occupation was listed as farmer. He was stationed at Camp McClelland, IA. on Feb.28th 1863. Listed as sick at Vicksburg, MS. in Oct. of 1863. Listed as sick at the Adams Military Hospital at Memphis,
TN. on Jan. 28th, 1864.

He appears on muster roll at Selma, AL. Apr. 20th, 1864.  It states that he was sick at the hospital at Davenport, IA. on Apr.26, 1864. He then died in the hospital at Davenport, IA. on May 23, 1864 of
"Typhoid Fever and Inflammation of the Bowels"
