fatigue today unloading a boat & I got my havver sack full of
potatoes so I had a good mess for Supper & a good irish woman
gave me some Corn and wheat bread for my Supper & breakfast
10 Potatoes soup for breakfast this morning The third division
of the 16 army Corp left to day

11 Will I got a loaf of light bread this morning for the first
for two months & some sholder meet for been (lefas?) a darky
woman to bake my bread for dinner a good pone potatoes meat &
Coffee we draw Cloth to day at Mont Gunnery on gard the same
night & there was a hors stolen

I stood guard this night & there was a hors stolen & it was
found in the hands of the 1 Indiana battery they excused
themselves by saying they new nothing how the hors Came there
13 all quiet in Camp this day nothing worth mentioning but I got
a pair of shoes today after going bair footed 19 days lost my
boots by (loaning?) them

14 This is the sabbath & I have to march around with my gun on
my sholder in Mont Gunnery ala
15 this is my day to rest I came off gard at nine this morning
We drew rations to day
16 this is a fine morning I had a mess in a of pies for
breakfast We have been drilling today Well I have a Cup of Tea
for supper this evening the first for six months

We have the news this evening that Jefferson Davis & vice P
stevans with others is Captured by wilsons Cavalry
17 we drew soft bread to day for the first time since the first
of march nothing has transpired worthy of note to day yes a
darky give me a mess of green beanes

business is to guard Convicts from one office to another

for trial I took a darky to day for stealing he plead gilty to
the Charge I counted 136 sothern soldiers in one drove to day
18 Well I have been in the Carill with the negroes to day they
are Carild like mules & there is gard set over them till such an
hour then they are sent over the river to die like dumb beasts
as high as thirty dies in a day

19 sothern soldier & I had a talk to day a bout the war he said
he Blamed the South for Commensing as they did he lay the blame
on the leaders on both sides he also said it was the poor class
that done the fiting
20 I was on gard yesterday & I seen 300 sothern soldiers come in
to montgomery
21 Six botes landed today at mt gomery for the purpose of moving
soldiers

saint louis to be musterd out of the united States servis
23 Wm Edminister & Hess was put in jail today for stealing
potatoes in mont Gomery ala bama

25 I have been on provost duty to day & we arrested two gents &
put them in jail There was an order isued to day that all one
yeares men should bee musterd out in side of ten days

one of our wagon bois was shot three times last night with a
pistol by three of our soldiers in attempting to rob him two
negroes was stab it is likely they will die

blackberries Cream & shugar fresh beaf for breakfast this morning
15 I have been out to the Pensacola depot this morning for the
first time & I gatherd my Tittle pail full of blackberries

16 I was on gard to day at the union hospital & just at twelve
Pm two of the union soldiers attempted to rob a darkey They
struck him with a peace of iron but the darkey got a way from
them & was brot to the hospital in a few minutes he was badly
hurt
17 This day I & John Bartelles has been backberrying We got
all we wanted
18 This is the sabbath all is quiet in Camp but we had
inspection of armies as usual the war being over dont stop

this ungodly performence on the sabbath day We are eating the
trash now from the armey of the patomic & from every other part
of the armey We are getting meat that is rotten & stinks
19 I have been out today after blackberries & got a fine
(chance?) of them I got 5 pies bake & sold one for 25 Cts
There was too soldiers kild to day in a drunken bow They belong
to a missouria ridgement

There was a man cut with a boenife he is said to bee dead from
the wounds he belong to the union army though a citizen of
Montgomery the man that stab him was a reble acquaintance the
union man had our uniform on except the brass buttens the
quarrel was about the war
20 Well I have been on gard to day & there was a man belonging
to 32 iowa was robd on the street of 80 dollars

21 I was out a blackberring to day & gatherd 5 quarts in a
little while Colonel Bell left us to day for home
22 This day we have been Covering our shanties with brush I
have got three blackberry pies bake to day & some biscake So I
have had pie biscak & milk for supper
23 I have been after more brush to day I fried beaf for dinner
& maid som milk sop & had a good dinner

drunken soldiers all over town They acted more like beasts than
like men

dinner for three of us

have been down town & got my (shews fixt?)
28 I was on gard yesterday & there was a man stabd with a
boyonet thru the lungs it is supposed that he will die
29 This day I have written a letter & started it home
30 I have been to market this morning & got some fresh pork &
some eggs & had a good breakfast this morning we musterd for 2
months pay to day

I have been on gard guarding the Jail it is fool of both white
& black soldiers & my bunk mait was put in for shabanging a
negro wench in the bunk in broad day light
2 This is the sabbath nothing going on to day but inspection of
armes.
3 We are preparing for the forth I hear this morning that we
will leave soon
4 well we have been Celebrating the forth & it proved a fizzle

for there was but the soldiers & the darkies the darkies was
about ten men deap all a round the soldiers so that they Could
get no breath only the fog from them there was a toilet dance
in the evening & they all got drunk & get in a row & they kild a
Captain of the wis ridgement This was a leftenant in plais of a
Captain he belong to the 11 wisconstant

it was Wm Canida of Co A 8 Iowa that kild him he run a bayonet
throo him he is a rested & lodge in jail to wait his trial
5 I have been helping to move the officers head quarters &
getting rations
6 Two negroes got their Centance to day to bee hung for killing
a white man
7 I was to see them darkies hung to day & there was a great
Croud there I was only Close a nough to see them fall

9 James Andrews had his trial for killing a darkey & was
centance to ten yeares imprisinment for the same

11 a Corporal belonging to Co C (?) died last night with a pain

26 we left Celma this morning Cahaba 40
miles below Celma I have seen 2 alegators to day we staid all
night on the yellow jacket
27 I see an other alegator this morning we stuck most all day
on a sand bar

pen guarded by darkies & Cant get out & see any thing This is
the winding up of uncle sams business
