37th Iowa Infantry

My great-great-great grandfather, James William Lawson Sr, enlisted into the 37th Iowa Infantry (Greybeards), serving in this unit for a period of three years. Not much is known relative to the specific Company of assignment or the specifics of his military career. However, he was a Lieutenant at the time of discharge. This relative was born in Glasglow, Scotland, on 5 June 1799, emigrating to the United States in 1821.. His obituary indicates he died on 9 Sept 1889 in Graham County, Kansas. He was a member of the Captain Trego Post, Grand Army of the Republic.
