Iowa In the Civil War

This text version of the letters from Aaron Mitchell to his wife, Sara, were typed by my Grandfather, Roy Sawyer, sometime in the late 1960's. The originals are in the possession of the descendents of his older brother, Jay Sawyer. Using modern computer technology, I scanned the typed letters and converted them to text files. Those files were then edited to fix the errors resulting from the automated conversion. The result certainly has errors that were not contained in the original as well as corrections to spelling that existed in the original, however, it does substantially represent the content.

Philip R. Sawyer October 2, 1999

These letters were written by Great Grandfather Aaron P. Mitchell to his wife during the Civil War. No doubt many have been destroyed and not all have dates as they were written hurriedly witting near a campfire and many time with pencil. Roy Mead Sawyer
