17th Iowa Infantry

"State of Iowa Adjutant General's Department" Certificate

I Certify that according to the records on file in this office the military service of John Switzer was as follows:

Age 19. Residence Leon, nativity Ohio.
Enlisted February 28, 1862 in Company "A" Seventeenth Iowa
Infantry Volunteers. Mustered into the service of the United
States March 21, 1862, Keokuk, Iowa. Wounded severely, taken
prisoner and paroled May 14, 1863, Jackson Mississippi. Re-
enlisted and re-mustered April 22, 1864. Taken prisoner on
October 13, 1864, Tilton, Georgia. Mustered out May 26, 1865,
Davenport, Iowa.

In Testimony Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal at Des
Moines, this fifteenth day of June A.D. nineteen hundred and seventy.
