Junior Art Gallery Junior Art Gallery was founded in 1968 by the Waterloo Recreation and Arts Commission, Waterloo Community Schools and the Junior League. Partial funding is provided by grants from the Iowa Arts Council, the R.J. McElroy Trust, the Target Foundation, the John Deere Foundation and many area business and individuals. The Gallery, under the auspices of the Waterloo Museum of Art, is located in the Waterloo Recreation and Arts Center, and offers a unique Cultural experience for over 13000 northeast Iowa children and adults each year. With an emphasis on art and education, these annual changing exhibits introduce visitors to various cultures, creating a greater understand and appreciation of the world around us. Working in cooperation with the Waterloo Recreation and Arts Commission and the Waterloo Community Schools, the Junior Art Gallery Advisory Board and numerous area volunteers and craftpersons contribute thousands of volunteer hours each year to research, plan, design, and implement these nine-month long exhibits. Area school children and adults visiting the exhibits have experienced the wonder of touring a prehistoric cave dwelling, an ancient Athens market or a Chinese home. Imagine attending class in a Soviet school room or making a pretend journey into outer space!. These are just a few of the experiences provided visitors touring Junior Gallery over the years. Gallery exhibitions are designed by registered architects and designers and enhanced with art objects and artifacts loaned by institutions such as the Heard Museum, the Chicago Art institute and the Grout Museum of History and Science, The Smithsonian Institution, the Field Museum, the UNI Museum, and NASA as well as many private collectors.
